Prevention of waterborne infection in hospital showers

As other public buildings hospitals are prone to bio-film formation and increased levels of bacteria contamination. Although the hospital will have a water treatment regimen, some water borne bacteria are notoriously difficult to eradicate completely. Especially Legionella and Cryptosporidium  are resistant to a wide variety of disinfectants, including chlorine.

Permanent filtration therefore at the point of use (the shower) appears to be only way to protect immune compromised and other high risk patients against infection from water borne pathogens as Legionella Pneumophilia and Mycobacterium Avium.
