Legionella Safe Shower
Prevent infection from water borne Legionella Pneumophilia and other pathogens
Bacteria such as the Legionella Pneumophilia and Mycobacterium Avium (both 0,5 – 0,7 µm in size) occur naturally in surface water and are frequently found in shower plumbing. The bacteria can reproduce themselves to high levels in the slimy layer (bio-film), which forms on the inside of water pipes filled with stagnant or slow moving warm water.
The bacteria are released from the bio-film into the water stream and reach users when taps or showers are opened. To cause an infection the contaminated water must be vaporized and inhaled, which can happen easily if someone takes a shower.
Quite often structural adaptations to prevent formation of bio-film in which the bacteria grow appear to be impractical or impossible. Despite all the measures taken it is extremely difficult to eradicate bio-film, once established. As a result the presence of legionella bacteria and other pathogens persists.
A continuing nightmare for facility managers, who dare not to think of the consequences of closing down the showers in their facility in case of a break out.
Filtration at the point of use is therefore an obvious solution, to prevent outbreaks. However as long as regular testing shows that there is no sign of Legionella or other bacterial contamination, there is no need to go through the expense to filter the water prophylactically.
Prime Water’s focus is safe water at the point of use when needed. Once installed and in case of need the PW shower handles can be retrofitted with a membrane micro filter that stops all bacteria, including Legionella Pneumophilia. It provides protection, even if the problem persists for several months.
One call to your distributor is sufficient to be provided immediately with any number of filters required.

Pre-filter for Legionella safe showers
Tap water usually contains micro particles, which may clog the membrane filter. The speed of clogging is unpredictable as the concentration of micro particles varies significantly from place to place. If the flow rate is no longer acceptable, the filter should be replaced.
By using a pre-filter, placed immediately after the mixing tap, the service life of the membrane filter can be prolonged significantly. The pleated pre-filter has a pore size of 1 µm, preventing all larger particles to reach and clog the shower filter.
In cases where permanent filtration is required, pre-filtration is definitely recommended.
